Façade Idea #6 | From Waste to Façade

Façade Idea #6 | From Waste to Façade

Giving Glass a Second Life

Glass is one of the few construction materials that can be recycled indefinitely.

So why doesn’t it return more often as a façade?

At OpenFace Day 2026, Maja Dziwok presented ReGlass Thermal Blocks, a façade concept that transforms glass waste into a high-performance building component.

From waste to façade

The project combines recycled glass with foam glass insulation to create modular façade blocks that are both thermally efficient and easy to disassemble.

Instead of using permanent adhesives, the proposed system embraces demountable construction principles, allowing components to remain part of a circular material cycle.

The concept aims to reduce both operational energy demand and embodied carbon while simplifying future reuse.

Finding new, high-value applications for this waste glass is an important step towards more circular construction: high-performance façade products can come from waste, without compromising technical quality.
